In 2012, while being in my own depressed situation, there was a ray of a lesson to receive at Belaku, an orphanage in Tyagarajnagar. The kids who are unprivileged to have their guardians inspired me to step in to make more for those deprived of their fundamental needs. Thereafter my visits to Belaku become regular to celebrate all my friends’ birthdays and festivals. I also found another place to render my charity service: Sai old age home, Sunkadakatte. As I was a graduate student, financial support came from the savings from my pocket money to spend on this new family of mine. “Belaku” old age home near Ragigudda is another place I visited almost all the Fridays in those days. Then few of my friends showed their interest to get along with me to make it bigger.
While my journey was going in the path of social activities, so many negative comments came through, taught of expanding our helping hands. Initially, we started many activities in the name of “Spreading smiles” across Bangalore. We started celebrating birthdays, festivals, and national days in old-aged homes and orphanages by providing them with food and sweets. But we wanted to make it across Karnataka, so I traveled across regions, met people, institutions requesting to aid our charity business. We developed our network in more than ten districts. We also started conducting few educational activities in government schools. Later, to secure our activities legally we registered our group under the Karnataka societies act in December 2013 in the name “Amrutha Bindu.” In this journey of our doing good, I have had hindrances, received many demotivating comments. But I have confidence in the genuineness of my work. We will continue to extend the helping hands.
The term Amrutha Bindu literally means the drop that makes one immortal. Our Amrutha Bindu also similarly the drop of service from each participant involving with us that would relieve those in difficulties and be the helping hands for the needy.
We mainly focus on three fields of societal improvement are Education, health, and Environment. Our volunteers conduct science, spoken English, and computer classes to students in public schools, slums, and orphanages on weekends. We also do train students in extracurricular activities and conduct cultural events and competitions like Essay writing, pick and speak regularly in government schools, slums, and orphanages. We also help poor kids by providing them with books, stationery, bags, and the necessary facilities they would need.
Under our service in the health sector, we are much concerned about the demand for blood. We have more than 2,000 regular donors across Karnataka to facilitate the requirements in emergency cases.
As part of our environmental activities, we have conducted Vrukshotsava wherein we planted more than 20 saplings in Government schools. We are also starting a new initiative called Green clubs in schools. Green clubs would include activities to promote awareness of environmental issues and sustainable lifestyles.
One of our recent satisfactory works was conducting Joy of giving week 2015. We provided food for more than 100 people every day for a week. This was conducted for poor and homeless people in Bhoopasandra, Tanisandra, KR Puram, Shivajinagar, KR market, Gottigere, Hebbala, and Kadugodi slums. We also facilitated a health camp in association with Lions club Sanjay Nagar and spring spreading smiles in all the areas in the same week.
We are also helping as scribes to visually impaired students in their exams and also mobilizing volunteers in association with Youth for Seva.
We have few more initiatives to be started before next year like “Sammilana” to help trans genders, “One good work for a day” to promote moral values in society.
Our mission is:
- To work with communities to fight hunger and poverty and care for the orphans, disabled and old aged people.
- To strive for the betterment of society and to bring up a good society through our activities in government schools and underprivileged areas in Karnataka.
We also look forward to adopting public schools & provide quality education to the kids. We also aim to start our shelter homes for orphans and aged persons.
We do service not because it is our pride, but because this is our happiness. To bring a positive change in society is our responsibility. We wish we continue doing this duty forever.
Prashanth,
Founder, AmruthaBindu.
